I write about energy transition, politics, public policy, science and policy, and institutional change, drawing on experience across government, consultancy and academia.
Much of the writing draws on my work as an adviser and interim manager in the public sector, close to politics, policy and implementation: where ambitions meet institutions, procedures, competing interests, political choices and limited capacity. I am interested in what makes public action effective and what that says about the way we organise change.
The writing is personal and independent. Some posts are analytical, some more reflective, and some simply start with something that seems worth examining more closely. Every now and then, something entirely unrelated slips in too, or just a rant that needed somewhere to go.
The site also serves as a repository for earlier writing, including posts originally published through my former newsletters. Posts are in English or Dutch.
